Universities in India are abundant, 850 to be precise. There are 384 State Universities, 47 Central Universities, 123 Deemed-to-be Universities, and almost 296 Private Universities. A majority of Universities of India are set up by Central and State Governments and managed by the Ministry of Human Resource Department. Besides that, authorities like AICTE, NAAC, AIU, and UGC monitor the operations of all the universities. The universities offer Undergraduate courses, Postgraduate courses, and Doctoral degree to the youth of the country and prepare them as per international standards.

Basic Overview
India is always one of the most prominent countries for the quality and the standard of education. Both in the Past and in the present the country is famous for its universities. Our centuries old Nalanda and Takshashila are Universities which are still in the books of world record for its standard and quality. Today in the present days we have universities like Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Calcutta, Bombay University, Madras University, Jadavpur University and so many.
In today's date there are more than 600 universities, and all are recognized under University Grant Commission. Like Schools, Universities are both public and private. In recent times there are lot of Universities which are run by Private bodies and they are nothing less than the Government run Universities.
Central run Universities are considered as the deemed universities and they are completely run by the Union Government. The curriculum and the syllabuses of all the courses are decided by the Union Bodies. There are not much Central Universities.
State Universities are not many in number. They are run and governed by the State government. Each State of India has their own University and the colleges are all under those University.
Private University are the university run by the private bodies, but they are recognized by UGC. There are several good and renowned private universities in the country which are internationally acclaimed due to their standard and quality of imparting higher education.
The deemed technical institute of the country is Indian Institute of Technology well known as IIT and Management Institute is Indian Institute of Management well known as IIMs. The most renowned Science and Technology hub is Indian School of Business in Hyderabad. These three institutes are one of the best in the world.
