CBSE Online Registration

(The Telegraph) To make the system of registration fool-proof, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has started an online registration system for students of Class XI and for those who are appearing for the 2011 Class XII board examination.

Earlier, CBSE Schools would encounter problems while registering students for the board exams as they would send applications by post, which used to be time consuming. Compiling data and issuing admit cards would often be delayed.

Also, a number of private students who appeared for the exams often registered their names from non-affiliated schools, compounding problems, since CBSE guidelines say registration should only be done from the school where he/she is studying.

Schools have generally welcomed the new system about which they were told a week back through a circular. Vice-principal of Oxford Public School, A.K. Singh said that bungling during registration would be a thing of the past once the online registration system started.

“We are going to use the CBSE online registration system in our school. This would prevent private candidates, or schools that are involved in filling up forms privately, from flouting rules,” he said. In the earlier system of registration, Singh said school authorities would fill up the data, which included the name of the student, combination of subjects, guardian’s name and other relevant details manually.

This would no longer be the case.

Echoing Singh’s view, M.K. Sinha, the principal of DAV Public School, Kapildev Kadru, said according to CBSE norms only those who were registered could appear in the board examination.

Further, a school is also supposed to prepare a checklist of registered candidates, which should be sent to the CBSE as a record.

According to a school official, all the schools have got their affiliation number as ID and school code as the password.

“Once the school administration uploads the affiliation number and school code, the system will display the school name and e-mail id that is available with the board. On seeing the school name, we would enter the registration data specific to the school,” explained Sinha.

Principal of Surendranath Centenary School Samita Sinha said the new system would be of great help to conduct the process of board exams. “Schools in remote areas will benefit since sending the registrations by post often took a week or more,” she added.

The last date of registration, according to school authorities, is August 31. Beyond that, registration is allowed till September 15, but it will attract a fine.
