Every CBSE-affiliated school has fresh homework for the new session. The Board has asked its schools to sign up for the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2026-27, a national programme that scores schools on cleanliness, water, sanitation and green practices. Principals need to register on the SHVR portal or mobile app and finish a self-assessment within the given timelines.
The programme comes from the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education, and now covers the 2026-27 cycle. It carries forward the same design used in SHVR 2025-26. So schools that took part last year will find the rules familiar.
What CBSE SHVR 2026-27 registration asks schools to do
The rating judges each school across six thematic areas:
- Water
- Toilets
- Handwashing with Soap
- Operation & Maintenance
- Behaviour Change & Capacity Building
- Mission LiFE Activities
CBSE has listed clear steps for principals:
- Register the school on time on the SHVR Portal or Mobile Application.
- Complete the self-assessment process within the prescribed timelines.
- Nominate suitable staff members to coordinate SHVR work and keep the required records and evidence.
- Get students, teachers and the wider school community involved in cleanliness and sustainability efforts.
- Take part in orientation and capacity-building programmes run by NCERT and other designated authorities.
Who can take part and how it works
Participation is open to all government, government-aided and private schools, in both urban and rural areas. Schools register using their UDISE+ code. There are two routes: the web portal at https://shvr.education.gov.in/ and the SHVR mobile app, which is on Google Play and the App Store.
The process is a self-assessment survey. A school signs up with its UDISE+ code, fills in the required information, and submits the form. Schools are then scored against the different categories and receive a Star-Rating and recognition. Ratings roll up from the District level to the State and National levels.
SHVR grew out of the earlier Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar. According to the official brochure, around 8.23 lakh schools took part in the 2021-22 round.
