HRD Ministry of the Government of India on Monday established an Innovation cell at the All India Council of Technical Innovation (AICTE). The aim is to foster and strengthen innovation efforts in all Higher Educational Institutions (HEI's). MHRD's Innovation cell has undertaken major initiatives related to various innovative activities such as Smart India Hackathon (SIH), Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA), the formation of Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and other such related programs.

The primary objective of the cell is to inspire and uplift the young students by supporting them to work on new ideas and make a prototype of them to implement for a brighter eco system.

Smart India Hackathon 2018 and 2019 organized by the Innovation cell to promote innovation and learning among the young minds and identify disruptive technologies that would solve various challenges faced by the country. These rankings will inspire Indian Institutions to process their mindset and build an innovative ecosystem to encourage high-quality research and development.

The First two editions 2017 and 18 turned out to be a huge success and the ongoing SIH 2019 is on its way to success with the Grand Finale to be held on 8th to 12th July 2019. The Smart India Hackathon 2019 aims to provide young students with a platform to help solve some of the major problems faced by us and create a culture through which these innovations can become problem-solving.

HRD Minister said, " The Innovation cell conducted India's first-ever Leadership talk series to help students learn from life experiences of Entrepreneurs".

ARIIA ranking 2019 has been organized to systematically rank all the major HEI's with regards to Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development among Students. To add to this more than 900 HEI's have already established the Institution Innovation Council (IIC's) in their campuses to promote Innovation and create a sustainable Innovation Ecosystem among the students.
