After introducing the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) or grading for students in Class X, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has now initiated a programme to assess the grade system’s implementation. A recent circular sent by the CBSE across the country said school.

principals will act as peer assessors, or “monitors” with the objective of capacity building and learning from each other’s experiences.

This will be done through a ‘monitor/mentor framework’ under which each monitor (principal) will be assigned six to eight schools in the neighbourhood. Government school principals will be assigned other government schools and public school principals will mentor other public schools.

The monitors will visit schools and document their observations through checklists such as interaction with teachers, classroom observation, self-review and mentoring form.

“As a mentor, one needs to monitor things such as how the co-scholastic areas are assessed in the school, what are the tools used to teach life skills, the facilities available and the overall environment,” said

Ameeta Wattal, principal of Springdales School, Pusa Road, who has been chosen one of the monitors.

The principals mentoring the schools will guide them on areas of improvement and also learn from their experiences.

Each monitor will visit the schools with a team of two subject experts, once or twice in a term. The mentoring principals will need to submit their observations by December. The Board will then collate all the information, based on which one of the schools will be awarded Best CCE School and one of the principals the Best Mentor sometime in March next year.
