The wait is over for teacher aspirants. CBSE has confirmed that the 22nd edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) will be held on 12th and 13th December 2026. If you plan to teach in a government school, this is the exam that decides your eligibility.
The Central Board of Secondary Education runs CTET twice a year. Clearing it is a basic requirement to apply for teaching posts at the primary and upper primary levels in central government schools and many state and private schools. This December round is the 22nd such exam.

Exam city slip and admit card: when to check
CBSE has laid out a clear timeline for the two documents every candidate needs before the test.
- Exam city and exam date: The city allotted to you, along with your specific exam date, will show up on the CTET portal 15 days before the examination. This slip tells you which city to travel to, so you can book stay and transport early.
- Admit card: The admit card carries the full Examination Centre address. It will be available for download from the CTET portal two days before the exam.
Keep an eye on the portal as December nears. Miss the admit card download and you cannot sit for the test.
What candidates should do now
There isn’t much to do on the portal yet for these two documents, but the dates are fixed. Plan your preparation around 12th and 13th December 2026. Closer to the exam, log in first for the exam city slip around the 15-day mark, then return two days before the exam to pull your admit card.
A quick note on why timing matters. The city slip comes almost two weeks ahead so out-of-town candidates get room to arrange travel. The admit card, with the exact centre, lands only two days prior. So do not wait for the admit card to figure out your city.
