IIT-JEE 2011 Errors

The question paper for this year's joint entrance examination of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT-JEE) held on Sunday had different errors, training centres across the region complained. There were ten versions of the paper from 0 to 9 with each student getting the version that corresponded to the last digit of his/her registration number. Faculty members also reported errors in some versions.

An error was reported in the first paper of today's IIT JEE. Mr. Ajay Antony of TIME observes this in Question No:- 54, Question Paper Code - 0. In Mathematics, / Matrices and Determinants the question reads '' Let M& N be two 3 x 3 skew symmetric matrices ....''.but a skew symmetric matrix of odd order is singular.so inverse does not exist. The question was incomplete and couldn't be answered

He said the same question appeared in all the versions but the question numbers in all versions were jumbled. He also found the chemistry section in Paper 2 difficult compared to Paper 1. Mathematics and Physics sections were moderately difficult, he said.

According to faculty members of other coaching centres, four questions in Paper I 55, 65 and 69 of version 5 and 63 of version 4 were wrong. While questions 55 and 65 had inconsistent data, question 69 had two answers with values three and nine. The questions were from matrix, differential equations and arithmetic progression sections of Mathematics respectively.

In the morning session , students felt that Mathematics was a bit tough while Chemistry was easier. In the afternoon session Chemistry section in Paper 2 was difficult compared to Paper 1. Mathematics and Physics sections were only moderately difficult.
