Sports gear out, phones ready for digital tributes. CBSE has asked every affiliated school to mark National Sports Day 2026 on 29 August with a full day of play, and to log what they did through an official Google form once the events wrap up. The board is tying the celebration to the Fit India movement’s nationwide campaign, “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”.
National Sports Day falls on 29 August each year. It honours the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the hockey great, and celebrates the country’s sporting heritage. The Fit India movement runs under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and its campaign this year rests on three pillars: “Tribute, Play and Move”.
What CBSE wants schools to do for National Sports Day 2026
The board has shared a suggestive list of activities schools can pick from. These are grouped as follows:
- Digital tributes, the 29 Challenge, ‘Pass the Ball’, and ‘Sports Bandhan’ to get students going.
- ‘Ek Ghanta Khel ke Maidan Mein’, the heart of the day, where every student steps out to play.
- ‘Sundays on Cycle’, a health-focussed edition, on 30 August.
Schools are free to shape these to suit local conditions, traditional regional sports, the ground and equipment they have, and the age of their students. The board has stressed safety, accessibility, inclusivity and maximum participation.
Ready-made creatives and the reporting form
CBSE has put up a folder of editable material to help schools run the day. It carries campaign creatives, posters, banners, social media creatives, National Sports Day photo frames and T-shirt designs. So the plan is simple. Play on 29 August, cycle on 30 August, then report. Principals and PE teachers are the ones who will drive this on the ground, and the creatives folder gives them a head start on posters and social posts.
