Schools that want to host CBSE’s national selection-trials in Karate and Wrestling must apply fast. The window closes on 5 October 2026 at 2:00 pm. These trials will pick the students who represent CBSE at the SGFI National School Games in 2026-27.
CBSE has been affiliated with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) since 8 July 2024. That link means national winners of CBSE Games now compete in SGFI’s National School Games. To build the squads for the 2026-27 edition, the board is holding national-level selection-trials in two disciplines: Karate and Wrestling (Free-style).
CBSE Karate and Wrestling selection-trials 2026-27: what schools must do
There are two kinds of schools here, and the steps differ.
Schools that want to organise a trial apply online. The board has shared a Google Form for this.
- Apply to organise at: https://forms.gle/a7iweK6Sfbiiw4u79
- Last date to apply: 5 October 2026, 2:00 pm
Schools that want to send students to compete do it differently. They email their entries straight to the organising school, at least five days before the event, so the host can plan. The list of venues will be shared soon. One point for players and parents to note: these are selection-trials, so no participation certificates will be handed out.
Rules, age and weight categories
The rules for Karate and Wrestling (Free-style) stay the same as SGFI’s own rules. Both sports are split across three age groups, Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19, with separate boys’ and girls’ weight classes in each. Karate, for instance, runs from the - 20 kg boys’ class in Under-14 up to the + 82 kg class in the older groups, while Wrestling weight slabs climb to 125 kg for Under-19 boys. The full age and weight tables are attached with the circular as Annexure 1, and schools should check them before entering any student.
Costs, accommodation and safety
The organising school arranges accommodation, including bedding, and all meals for the visiting teams. Each participant pays Rs.500/- per day for meals and stay. For entry control and identity checks at the venue, the host issues an ID card and may charge up to Rs.100/- per player for it.
Safety sits with both the participating and the organising schools. Every participating school must arrange proper insurance for its full delegation, covering health, accident and travel. CBSE has made clear it will not be liable for any claim if an accident happens during travel, stay or the tournament. Parents and guardians are to be told about this, and participating schools may take an undertaking from them.
For anything more, schools can write to the Additional Director (Sports), CBSE at manjit.cbse@gmail.com or cbsegames@gmail.com.
