Candidates writing the UGC-NET exam at centres in Delhi have a fresh instruction to keep in mind: leave early. With the 18th BRICS Summit set for New Delhi, the National Testing Agency has warned that traffic curbs across the city could slow down anyone heading to an exam hall on those dates. Plan the trip, keep a buffer, and don’t count on a clear road.
The advisory follows the Summit’s schedule at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, running from 11 September 2026 to 13 September 2026.
Why the UGC-NET Delhi advisory matters
Security around the Summit is being tightened, and the Delhi Traffic Police along with other authorities are expected to bring in diversions and restrictions in several parts of the city. NTA has clarified that the UGC-NET Examination centres are not in the zones likely to face the heaviest curbs. Still, that’s cold comfort if your bus is stuck. Candidates travelling to centres in Delhi may run into congestion, diversions and delays on some routes because of the security and traffic management measures.
UGC-NET, short for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, decides eligibility for Assistant Professor roles and for Junior Research Fellowship in Indian universities and colleges.
What candidates are advised to do
NTA has spelled out four steps for those appearing at Delhi centres:
- Plan the journey to the examination centre well in advance.
- Keep enough time in hand for travel, given possible traffic restrictions, diversions and congestion.
- Check the latest traffic advisories from the Delhi Traffic Police and other authorities before starting out.
- Reach the centre well before the reporting time printed on the Admit Card.
The agency has also repeated a standing instruction: follow the reporting time and every other line on your Admit Card carefully. Sort out your travel beforehand so a delay doesn’t cost you the exam.
