The civil work of the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) medical college has gained momentum. The medical college is scheduled to commence its first academic session in July 2012. However, in 2011, the ESIC authorities will approach the Medical Council of India for a go-ahead after complete inspection so that the academic session begins in 2012. The foundation stone of the medical college that is coming up in Neighbourhood-3 adjoin- ing the existing ESIC Hospital was laid by the then Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernanes on February 27.2009. While there is already a pro- vision for 2(H) beds in the exist- ing hospital run by the ESIC in Neighbourhood, the medical college will have a capacity of 500 beds. The existing hospi- tal will be merged with the medical college.

A provision has been made for a dental college. There are over seven lakh ESIC beneficiaries in the district. While there will be some reservation in admission to the medical courses to the wards of ESIC employees, the medi- al college will be open to all. Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Limited (UPRNNL) has undertaken the civil work project worth Rs 400 crore for the medical college. UPRNNL officials said the work got delayed due to late handing over of the staff quarters on the ESIC Hospital campus. However, UPRNNLgener.il manager SR Upadhyay said that he is satis- fied with the pace of work and the project will be completed in time. A private medical college is also scheduled to lx» func- tional from the next academic session at Chhaynsa.
