Mathematics Project on Male Female Ratio
Mathematics Project on Male Female Ratio
Objective: To investigate by how much and how the male female ratio has changed over the generations, and to estimate the male female ratio for the next generation taking into account the last 3 generations.
Description: Contacted 5 persons by visiting their place or talking over phone and collected information about number of males and females in their last three generations.
Person 1 - Sunil Singla (Data Taken on Phone)
(i) Generation 1
No. of males = 11, No. of females = 15
(ii) Generation 2
No. of males = 5, No. of females = 5
(iii) Generation 3
No. of males = 1, No. of females = 1
Person 2 (Data Taken by Visiting His House)
(i) Generation 1
No. of males = 7, No. of females = 12
(ii) Generation 2
No. of males = 3, No. of females = 2
(iii) Generation 3
No. of males = 2, No. of females = 1
Person 3
(i) Generation 1
No. of males = 11, No. of females = 2
(ii) Generation 2
No. of males = 4, No. of females = 5
(iii) Generation 3
No. of males = 3, No. of females = 0
Person 4
(i) Generation 1
No. of males = 4, No. of females = 5
(ii) Generation 2
No. of males = 5, No. of females = 3
(iii) Generation 3
No. of males = 1, No. of females = 1
Person 5
(i) Generation 1
No. of males = 12, No. of females = 9
(ii) Generation 2
No. of males = 5, No. of females = 7
(iii) Generation 3
No. of males = 1, No. of females = 2
Analysis
Generation 1 (Combined Data)
| Count | |
|---|---|
| No. of Males | 45 |
| No. of Females | 43 |
| Total | 88 |
- Probability of males = 45⁄88 = 0.51
- Probability of females = 43⁄88 = 0.48
Graph: Bar or pie chart showing male vs. female distribution in Generation 1 (plotted from data above).
Generation 2 (Combined Data)
| Count | |
|---|---|
| No. of Males | 22 |
| No. of Females | 22 |
| Total | 44 |
- Probability of males = 22⁄44 = 0.50
- Probability of females = 22⁄44 = 0.50
Graph: Bar or pie chart showing male vs. female distribution in Generation 2 (plotted from data above).
Generation 3 (Combined Data)
| Count | |
|---|---|
| No. of Males | 8 |
| No. of Females | 5 |
| Total | 13 |
- Probability of males = 8⁄13 = 0.62
- Probability of females = 5⁄13 = 0.37
Graph: Bar or pie chart showing male vs. female distribution in Generation 3 (plotted from data above).
Estimated Probability for Next Generation
- Probability of males = 0.62 + 0.05 = 0.67
- Probability of females = 0.37 - 0.04 = 0.33
Note: This is the estimated probability according to the trend observed across earlier generations. However, the actual probability of males and females is expected to be equal after a few years.
