Common Online Admission System (COAS)
The Common Online Admission System (COAS), to be introduced for admission to PUC I in nine cities of the State in the next academic year, is expected to block out the disparity between SSLC and class X students of CBSE-ICSE syllabus.
A separate merit list will be prepared for CBSE and ISCE students when their results are declared. Thus, the new system will help these students overcome the inherent deficiencies that characterise the existing admission process.
Till now, CBSE and ICSE students were unable to integrate with the PUC system as results of their Class 10 examination are declared late. In view of this, the Department of Pre-University will prepare a separate merit list for CBSE and ICSE students as per the five per cent seats reserved for them.
A senior official of the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) said that the new system would help CBSE and ISCE students integrate with the State’s PU scheme.
The DPUE hopes the new system will help all students, who have passed SSLC examination, get admission in any college of their choice based on their individual merit as per the prescribed roster system for seat allotment. Under the COAS, PUC I aspirants and their parents in Bangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, Mysore, Gulbarga, Belgaum, Davangere, Mangalore, Shimoga, and Tumkur need not visit colleges to apply for the admission. Rather, they would be able to do so from the comfort of their homes.
Common Online Admission System
- An exhaustive city-specific brochure will be available after the last date of the SSLC examination. The brochure will have, among other things, details on seat matrix of all the colleges in the respective city.
- The brochure will also have details on colleges, languages/subject combinations available there, intake, category-wise/combination-wise cut-off percentage for the previous year, infrastructure, etc.
- The DPUE might give two options (online and physical applications) to students depending on the feedback.
- Under COAS, students will have to just key in the SSLC registration number and fill the preference of desirable colleges (maximum 40).
- Students will be given 10 days to submit their applications from the date of declaration of the SSLC results.
- A merit category-wise list will be published.
