St. Josephs High School, Guntur

I studied in this school from 1955 to 1961 (Nursery to Class 5). At that time boys were allowed to study in this school till Class 5 only. Luckily, in that year 1961 itself, a branch of this school for boys was opened in Kannavarithota, and I joined this branch in Class 6 in that year. Then as my father was transferred to Calcutta (now kolkata) I had to leave this school. I have vivid memories of this lovely school. Beautiful classrooms, beautiful buildings, beautiful church, beautiful playground, beautiful assembly ground, beautiful auditorium (for dramas, debates, etc). But from the internet I observe, there is a lot of change in the buildings (modernised obviously). We boys and girls enjoyed a nice and disciplined atmosphere, with friendly teachers - I remember madams Anthoniamma, Josepheen, Premlila, Vimala(she was my aunty), Saraswathi, Regina and that highly feared but nice Lily teacher, who was also warden of the women's hostel located near Naaz theatre. Then there were sisters Lucy, Ignatius, Prudenciana (maybe my spelling is wrong, please pardon me), the last was ever smiling and benevolent. and then of course my class mates Gurunath, Ramesh, Manohar, Ashvin, Balakrishna (there were two of them), Gauri, Sarala, K G Geetha,Annapurna, Mohameda Begum. In class 5(in 1960-61), the top 3 rankers were K G Geetha, Annapurna and Gurunath. How I wish I could locate any of these persons so we could interact with each other. I am extremely grateful to this school which laid a solid foundation for my education and career. I could acquire B.Com (Hons) from University of Calcutta, PGDM (HRM), ACS, ACMA and FCA qualifications and had a rewarding career, culminating as General Manager (Finance) in a Central PSU. I now lead a retired and peaceful life with my family in Visakhapatnam. Thank you very much St Joseph's! I happened to visit Guntur sometime back and stood in front of this school for a long time recollecting lovely memories, but hesitated to enter it, as there would be no one belonging to my time in it - 60 years is a very long time back!
