Shree Kamala Madhav Vidyamandir Gudhe Secondary School Sangli

Founded by Shri. Shrinivas Deshpande of Mahatma Gandhi Sewa Mandir Trust, Bandra sometime in the late 1990's, Kamala Madhav Vidyamandir has only seen progress since then. A computer room, free pick and drop bus facility for students and a well endowed library seem a little out of place for a school situated literally on a hill station and 57 kilometers away from the nearest city, Karad. The students of this school are taught basic life skills like sewing, cooking, etc. apart from the standard state syllabus. Various ancillary activities in the arts, agriculture and animal husbandry are encouraged in this school and the produce sold in the nearby villages. These activities provide a means for self sustainable functioning of the school. Growing rice, cultivating roses, poultry, goat rearing, dairy, etc. are some of the activities attached to this school. A diploma course in dairy technology is also offered to students after 10th. Most of the alumni now have jobs and support their family. The annual day, which is invariably on the last Sunday of the year is celebrated with much zeal and enthusiasm. The whole premises is decorated colourfully. Dresses, rangolis, woolen clothing, etc made by the students are all on display in the classrooms. The students take great pride in showing their creations to visitors. There is a sports show on the ground followed by the programme on stage consisting of drama, speeches and dancing. This year, the students staged a Sanskrit play which was very well received by the chief guests. ~ by n r m
