The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research or CSIR is known for being a premier Research and Development organization. It is famous for carrying out extensive research and development in diverse areas. This is possible because of its presence all over India and having a dynamic network of 39 outreach centres, 5 units, 3 Innovation Complexes and 38 national laboratories. It also boasts of the support of 4600 active scientists and 8000 technical and scientific personnel.
CSIR has a wide variety of science and technology work under its umbrella. It deals with oceanography, geophysics, space physics, genomics, chemicals, drugs, biotechnology, mining, nanotechnology, aeronautics, instrumentation, mining, information technology, environmental engineering etc. It is also responsible for providing the required scientific platform for various other societal efforts like health, drinking water, environment, food, energy, housing and farm and non-farm areas. It also works constantly towards human resource development.
The institution basically functions in the sectors of science and engineering leadership, open innovation and crown sourcing, innovative solutions for technology, entrepreneurship based on science, nurturing the talent in various transdisciplinary areas and transformation of the socio economic sectors through S&T intervention. In short, the maximum realization of science and technology in various fields is their main aim.
