Which stream to choose after Class 10 - non-medical or commerce?
Which stream (except medical) should I choose after my Class 10. I am a good student and scored the highest in social sciences in my Class 9 exams. I like science but I am not so good at maths. I want to be an IFS officer but need a back-up option which completely depends on my stream. What career avenues are open to non-medical and commerce students? Is it true that we have more choices with non-medical subjects than commerce?

It is quite normal to be confused at this stage of life, when there are so many exciting opportunities available today. The first big decision is your choice of subjects in Class 11, which should depend to a great extent on your career goals and the subjects you are good at and like to do. This is the time you need to start thinking about a career, with goals which must be realistic and suit your abilities and interests. If you are interested in a science career and have good numerical and analytical skills, then the science stream would be suitable. If you like social sciences and score well in the same, enjoy reading and writing, and are good with people and ideas, but not so good at maths, you may prefer to take up arts or commerce.
Always take into account a combination of academic performance as well as interest in the area to choose a subject stream. While it is true that you have more employment options with science, as you can take up both science and non-science related careers, it has more value when you want to keep a science-related career as a possible option.
Remember that the level of study of science subjects in Class 11 and Class 12 is difficult compared with what you read in Class 10. Commerce whether, with or without maths, provides a good base of knowledge for pursuing a range of careers.
