VCI Veterinary Council of India

Follow

The full form of VCI is Vetinerary Council of India. It is a statutory body which is responsible for veterinary practises in India, and was established under  Government of India under the Ministry Of Agriculture in 1984.

The VCI is much like a legislative body, with members both elected and nominated into their body of twenty-seven officials.

The VCI performs many functions. Like other institutions of its kind, it is responsible for upholding the standards of veterinary practice in India and veterinary education required for recognized qualifications by the relevant institutions. It also advises the State and Central governments on matters related to a veterinarian practice. Another function of the VCI is to negotiate with similar institutions located in other countries imparting training in veterinary sciences for recognition of their qualifications on a mutual exchange basis.

Besides this, the VCI is the regulatory authority of the All India Pre Veterinary Test which grants admission to B.V.Sc and A.H.(Bachelors of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry) seats offered by government veterinary colleges in India based on the merit list of the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET). The qualification is required for a career in the poultry industry, a job as a veterinarian doctor or even veterinarian research.  As more and more research has happened in the field of genetic engineering and biotechnology, this field had become quite significant.
