National Board of Accreditation (NBA) is an autonomous body which was established the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) in the year 1994. NBA is affiliated by Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The Institute is responsible for timely evaluations of technical institutions and their programs based on norms laid down by the AICTE council.
NBA accredits programs and not the colleges or institutions. These programs consist of diplomas, undergraduate programs, and post-graduate programs in the field of engineering and technology, pharmacy, management, architecture, computer applications, applied crafts and arts, and hospitality and tourism management. National Board of Accreditation has an international recognization and is part of the Washington Accord Agreement which is signed by six countries in the year 1989. It is an International Agreement among institutes that accredit undergraduate engineering degree courses. This agreement recognizes the equivalency of programs that are accredited by its members and facilitates acceptance of programs accredited by one body in the jurisdiction of the other. Furthermore, the NBA is also part of NABEEA (Network of Accreditation Bodies for Engineering Education in Asia), which is a network formulated by the General Assembly in 2007 for promoting engineering education and developing cooperation for better accreditation system.
