MCI Medical Council of India

Medical Council of India (MCI) was founded in 1934 under the Indian Medical Council Act of 1933. MCI is currently affiliated to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The post-independence period saw a steady increase in the number of medical colleges and universities in the country. Need for revision of provisions of Indian Medical Council Act was necessary to meet challenges imposed by rapid development and fast-paced progress of medical education sector in India. As a result, the Indian Medical Council Act of 1933 was eradicated and the new Act of 1954 was enacted. This Act was again modified in the years 1964, 1993 and 2001 respectively.

Medical Council of India strives to deliver quality medical care by maintaining a uniform standard of medical education and recommends recognization of medical degrees offered by Indian and foreign medical institutions. As per policy mentioned under the Indian Medical Council Act, National Entrance Examination Test (NEET) is conducted for admission of candidates for MBBS undergraduate and postgraduate courses to ensure transparency in the admission process. MCI examination also conducts a mandatory screening examination for foreign medical graduates who want to apply for registration with MCI. Official MCI website facilitates permanent medical certificate registration for medical professionals.
