Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) is a network of alternative schools for gifted students of the country which was established in the year 1986. These schools are administered by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) which is an autonomous organization situated in New Delhi under the Department of School Education and Literacy and Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. JNVs are co-educational residential schools which are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). They conduct classes from 6 th to12st standard and operate with the aim of finding and nurturing talent in rural areas by offering quality education through the residential school system without consideration to the socio- economic conditions of students.
There are about 598 JNV schools present across India as of today. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas admissions take place based on candidates performance in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). This entrance test is conducted and formulated by the CBSE. JNVST is a non-verbal and class-neutral exam which is crafted in a way to ensure that children from rural regions can compete without any disadvantages. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya recruitment takes place through advertisements which are published on their official website and leading newspapers as well as job portals. Candidates are screened through written exams.
