Institute of Mathematical Sciences is full form of (IMSc) which is a research center founded by Alladi Ramakrishnan in the year 1962. It is a national institute that offers fundamental research in fields of mathematical and physical sciences such as theoretical physics, theoretical computer science, mathematics, and computational biology. The Department of Atomic Energy funds the IMSc. IMSc offers graduate research program where a group of students is admitted every year to work towards a Ph.D. degree. Furthermore, the institute hosts scientists from all over the world at the post-doctoral level to support visiting scientist program in the field of research.

Apart from the Visiting Scientist Program, there are programs like Doctoral Programme where the intellectual environment is made available for fundamental research, Post-doctoral Programme where post-doctoral fellowships are encouraged and Summer Research Programme for bachelors and masters students who are interested in carrying out research. For the IMSc admissions in Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. programs in mathematics, candidates need to have qualified bachelors and masters degree in Mathematics or Statistics.
