The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) was founded in the year 1906 with support of Jamshedji Tata and Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV. Hence, this institute is locally well-known as 'Tata Institute.' IISc is a public institute for higher education and research in fields of science, management, engineering, and design. It has been granted the status of 'Deemed University' in 1958. IISc has various courses and programs such as UG Programs, Post Graduate Course Programs, and Post Graduate Research Programs in the field of fundamental and applied sciences. IISc has well-trained faculty of around 500 personnel that researches across more than 30 branches and 42 departments. IISc offers 75 different courses that are spread across PG, UG, and Doctoral course levels.
IISc admission forms for Bachelor, Masters, and Ph.D. programs are made available online once a year on the official website of the institution. Students need to clear respective entrance exams necessary for admission and then undergo screening through Group Discussion and Personal Interview to gain admission in IISc. IISc has been rewarded 1 st rank in 'university' and 'overall' category by The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for last three successive years. It has been affiliated by University Grant Commission, Association of Indian Universities, National Assessment and Accreditation Council, and Association of Commonwealth Universities.
