Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) was established in by the prominent economist V.K.R.V. Rao in 1958. It is one of India’s widely recognized autonomous and multi- disciplinary centre which works for social and economic development. It has a robust faculty of 23 social scientists along with supporting research staff focuses on emerging trends and edge-cutting areas of social and economic concern. Many of the past and current faculties are globally known, award-winning scholars. Institute of Economic Growth library is one of its kind with 1,31,000 documents including books, workshop papers, monograms, research reports, statistical serials in various fields, etc. Furthermore, this library constitutes of 20,000 journals with 2,000 different titles and 200 CD- ROMs on various institutes and topics. It also holds year wise statistical data of all the Indian states including census reports.
IEG has been providing regular training programs for Indian Economic Service (IES) officers on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs and Government of India. It also conducts, short term refresher courses on demand from government or institutes. Institute of Economic Growth has internships like Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship for providing research scholars the opportunity to take up post-doctoral research. IEG also offers four Ph.D. in sociology and economics every year which is affiliated by the Indian Council of Social Science Research.
