The Institute of Company Secretaries of India or the ICSI is the sole recognized professional body in India, which is responsible for developing and regulating the profession of Company Secretaries in India. Established under the Company Secretaries Act of the Parliament, 1980, ICSI is under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India.

The body is responsible for providing the best education to the students of the Company Secretaries Course and suggesting the Government to work for the excellence of the socio-economic growth of India. Formed on 4th October, 1968, the main objective of the body is to develop the professional capabilities as well as the career prospects of the corporate professionals as well as the company secretaries. It also enters into collaborations with various foreign institutions in the domains of training and research to help in the exchange of skills, data base and knowledge including exchange of facilities. Another very important objective is to publish literature, publications and research papers on any new legislation in the fields of capital markets, corporate laws and finance. The body also provides professional consultancy to the Government, of higher order, involving the latest practices, methods and corporate studies.
