Film and Television Institute of India or FTII was set up under the aegis of Government of India, in the year 1960. Set up in erstwhile Prabhat Studio premises, FTII takes pride in contributing some of the best talents to Indian and world cinema. It is an autonomous body, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the policies being determined by a Government Council.
The institution offers various courses related to film making and acting, covering a plethora of subjects related to the industry. The main objective of the body is to ensure quality production of cinema which can compete with international standards. It offers courses in Direction and Screenplay Writing, Sound Recording and Sound Design, Editing, Acting, Art Direction, Production Design, Feature Film Screenplay Writing and TV Direction.
FTII is responsible for developing suitable patterns of teaching in every branch of film and television, both at post-graduate and under graduate levels. The body is responsible for setting the highest standards of film and television education in India. Since the body started functioning, it has become thye premier film and television institute of our country, with its alumni becoming actors, technicians, directors, who have been conferred with various national and internal awards
