About

Established on 1st October, 1961, the basic objective of Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology or CSTT was to help in the evolution of technical terminology in all the Indian languages. The main function of the commission is to evolve standard terminology, distribute and propagate it in the process of evolution of technical and scientific terminology. It also works for the publishing of reference material and technical terminology in Hindi and other languages, in collaboration with the universities, the state governments, the State Granth Academies and the regional text-book boards.

Till date, CSTT has proudly standardized the terminology of about 800, 000 technical terms used in different subjects and different languages. It has also published definitional dictionaries, text-books, glossaries, monographs and reference materials. It is also responsible for the publication of quarterly journals like Gyan Garima Sindhu and Vigyan Garima Sindhu. It also takes care of the various departmental and administrative glossaries that are greatly used by various research laboratories, departments, institutions, PSUs and autonomous organizations under the government.

CSTT also organizes workshops, conferences, seminars, symposiums and orientation and training programs to help in popularizing the standard terminologies of Hindi and other Indian languages. It also updates and corrects the work done.
