What is DIGIPIN?

DIGIPIN (Digital PIN) is a national geo-coded addressing grid by the Department of Posts, Government of India, built with IIT Hyderabad and ISRO's National Remote Sensing Centre. It divides all of India into uniform grid cells and gives each one a unique 10-character code.

~4-metre precision

Each code marks a single ~4 m x 4 m square, precise enough for a building entrance, not a whole locality like a postal PIN.

10-character code

A fixed 10-character alphanumeric string covering all of India, including its territorial waters.

Private by design

The conversion is a fixed formula, so this tool computes everything in your browser, your location is never sent anywhere.

The stored DIGIPIN is a continuous 10-character string with no separators (e.g. 32C8495CJ3). The spaces in 32C 8495 CJ3 follow India Post's optional 3-4-3 grouping and are only for readability.
