XAVIER APTITUDE TEST
Xavier Aptitude Test or XAT is an examination conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of the Xavier Association of Management Studies ( XAMI) for selecting candidates for admission to some of the top management schools in India. The eligibility criteria for XAT vary as per the age, nationality and course chosen by the candidate.
Eligibility criteria as per nationality:
- Candidates who are Indian citizens can appear for XAT.
- NRI & foreign candidates can also apply.
- Foreign nationals can apply through their GMAT scores (except in Dubai & Kathmandu where XAT is also conducted).
Eligibility criteria as per age:
- No upper or lower age limit is defined.
Eligibility criteria as per Academics/Education:
- A graduate degree of 3 years minimum is required.
- If a candidate has a post-graduation he/she has to provide his PG marks in the application and not the graduation marks.
- All backlogs must be cleared before admission.
Eligibility criteria as per program chosen:
For Human Resources Management:
- Minimum 3 year bachelor’s degree.
- NRI & foreign candidates can apply through their GMAT score.
- Students awaiting forthe results of their final year examination can also apply.
For Business Management:
- 3-year bachelor’s degree.
- NRI and foreign students can apply through GMAT.
- Students awaiting results can apply.
General Management Programs:
- Recognized bachelor’s degree of 3-year duration from recognized university/institution.
- Managerial/supervisory experience of 5 years.
Business Management Program (Part-Time):
- A bachelor’s degree of 3 year duration in any discipline after completing 10+2 or equivalent.
- The degree should be from any university incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or possess and equivalent qualification from an institute approved by AICTE.
The exam comprises of objective type questions and has four sections with the following break up:
- 25 questions from Verbal & Logical Ability.
- 21 questions from Decision Making.
- 27 questions from Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation.
- 25 questions from General Knowledge.
The duration of the exam is 180 minutes. The topics in the quantitative ability section include geometry, trigonometry, statistics, profit & loss and so on. Decision making includes analytical reasoning & data arrangement. The Verbal and logical ability section mainly comprises of questions on vocabulary, grammar, sentence completion, paragraph completion, critical reasoning and so on. The general knowledge section includes questions on current affairs, politics, sports, history, awards and several other areas.
XAT is an extremely sought after examination as it opens the gateway to admission in excellent B-schools of great repute. It is important attempt many mock tests and be thoroughly prepared to get through XAT. A thorough knowledge of different topics goes a long way towards being successful in XAT.
