 BIRLA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE ADMISSION TEST

The BITSAT or the Birla Institute of Technology And Science Aptitude Test is an exam held by BITS Pilani for selecting candidates for the Integrated Degree Programs in BITS Pilani and its campuses at Goa and Hyderabad. The eligibility criteria for appearing in BITSAT vary according to the program chosen by the candidate.

For B.E. (Hons.), M.Sc (Hons.) and M.Sc (Tech.) programs the eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Candidates must have passed the 12th class examination from a recognized board/institution with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the main subjects.
  • Candidates must have secured a minimum of 75% marks in the three main subjects viz Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the 12th class examination.
  • The candidate must have secured a minimum of 60% marks in each of the subjects in class 12.

The eligibility criteria for the B.Pharm. (Hons.) program is as follows:

  • Candidates must have passed the 12th class qualifying exam with 75% marks.
  • In addition, they should have passed the 12th class qualifying exam with Physics, Chemistry & Biology as the subjects.
  • Students who have secured the 1st rank in the central and state boards of India in the qualifying exams with the appropriate subjects will be given direct admission to the courses of their choice. They need not attempt BITSAT for admission.

The criteria for admission for the candidates from foreign countries is as follows:

  • The candidates must have passed the country’s equivalent of the 12th class qualifying exam with 75% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • They should have secured at least 60% marks in each of the individual subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) in the equivalent of the 12th class exam of the country.
  • A minimum aggregate score of 16002400 in the SAT Tests in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • International candidates must have secured 60% in all the subjects of the equivalent of the 12th class exam for the country in question.

Minimum aggregate of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and English should be 75%

BITSAT is an objective type exam. There are 5 sections in the exam. The topics and the number of questions in each subject are as follows:

  • 40 questions in Physics.
  • 40 questions in Chemistry.
  • 45 questions in Mathematics/Biology depending on the course the candidate has opted for.
  • 15 questions in English Proficiency.
  • 10 questions from Logical Reasoning.

Overall there are 150 questions to be attempted in 180 minutes. If a candidate manages to attempt the entire 150 questions before 180 minutes he/she will get an additional 12 questions to attempt from the subjects Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics/Biology. There are a number of text books available for preparation. But by and large, a candidate should be thorough with the 12th class syllabus for success in BITSAT. The objective nature of the test makes it mandatory to be able to think fast. The BITSAT is a coveted examination and getting through the examination is a gateway to some of the finest institutions in the country. So prepare thoroughly and prepare early.
