National Awards to Teachers 2019 - A Positive Initiative by MHRD

Central Board of Secondary Education with the help of Ministry of Human Resource Development have introduced the Rewards and Recognition at National Level to the teachers who made difference not only in students all round development but also added a lot of value to school education with their teaching methods and ways of handling the students irrespective of all differences. The finest teachers of the country will be awarded The National Award which comprises of a Merit Certificate, a Shawl and a cash prize of Rs.50,000/-. Primary, Middle, Secondary and Higher secondary schools fall under the purview and the teachers and the Headteachers belonging to these schools in India will be eligible for the reward. Schools run by State Government, local bodies, UTs Administration, Central Government schools called Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Central Schools for Tibetans, Sainik Schools run by Ministry of Defence and schools run by Atomic Energy Education Society, All Schools affiliated to CBSE and ICSE. Retired teachers are not eligible but teachers who served the education system till the calendar year April 30th of the year for which the Award is given is eligible for the Reward and recognition.

This is a very positive initiative by the Government of India because it gives the education system an opportunity to look beyond exams and grades. The Meritorious teachers who promoted inclusive and integrated education are rewarded with this award. Teachers and Head Teachers or Principal who are involved in private teaching will not be recognized for the award. Only regular teachers and Headteachers will be considered but contractual teachers will not be considered for the award. The CBSE has already written to all the Heads of the schools to submit their application by 15th June 2019. Only Online application will be considered and has requested to cascade the information to other levels of teachers to submit their application as soon as possible.

The Board requested the schools to upload all the necessary pieces of information related to this award in their portal so that the applicants do not face any problem while applying. Disabled teachers working in regular schools will be given high priority and  Special Teachers or trained general teachers who have done the stupendous job in inclusive education will be given high priority. State and Central Level Selection Committee presided by a Director of Education or Head of the Organisation with a nominee from the Government will be responsible for shortlisting the names of the applicants based on the merit and the final names will be decided by Government of India. By August all names will be finalized by the jury members and on September 5th the National Award will be handed over to the shortlisted meritorious teachers by the President of India.
