"Study in India" to make India a global hub for higher education

The budget 2019-20 aims at making India a "knowledge superpower" wherein the education would specifically focus on developing a student's skills and knowledge. Currently two IITs and IISc, Bangalore fall into the category of top 200 world class universities' rankings. However this wasn't so before and the budget announced by Modi 2.0 government aims at fulfilling the aspirations of an India that plans to set up world class educational institutes. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman thus in a bid to promote innovation, research and quality education announced a budget of rupees four hundred crores for nurturing world class educational institutions.

This aside from a New Education Policy that proposes to transform current higher education system in India to one of the best in the world.

The 'Study in India' program was also announced to bring in more foreign students to India's higher education institutes. A plan for setting up of, by next year, a Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) is also in the offing to promote greater autonomy in higher education besides also generating better academic outcomes. Under the 'khelo India scheme', a National Sports Education Board for Development of Sportspersons would be developed to promote sports at every level.

The proposed goals above form part of the National Education Policy. An NRF or National Research Fund is to be established that would prioritise research activities, so pursued, as per the country's focus areas, goals and requirements.
