Waves of Change (WoC)

The board advised that every school dedicates five days in October 2012 to celebrate the Waves of Change program with each day being devoted to any one of following five themes:

It will be appreciated if the action plan is sent to the Board followed by a brief report of activities pre and post event, supported by pictures for our reference and record, addressed to Mr. R. P. Singh, Assistant Education Officer, Central Board of Secondary Education, Shiksha Sadan, 17-Rouse Avenue, Institutional Area, New Delhi- 110002.

Further, the Board advises the Sahodaya School Complexes to organise the Inter School Competitions in the following areas not later than Oct 2012, and forward the results to the Board.

  1. "Waves of Change Programme aims at making the nation aware of the quality and the kind of educational & institutional reforms as well as the entire gamut of educational initiatives taken up by CBSE in recent times at the behest of Ministry of Human Resource Development. It is also open to all the schools under different central and state education board.
  2. It gives an impetus to the all round development of the school children by making them aware of the changing aspects of education and new employment and entrepreneurship vistas.
  3. WOC highlights " The Education Beyond Books" and celebrates excellence through scholastic and co- scholastic learning's and shaping of the life skills.

Special Features

PARTICIPATION :-

The Event WOC would take place from 10.10.12 to 17.10.12 and the Launching Ceremony is on 04. 10.12 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Participation is open for all the schools under any examination board.

The following thematic areas have been selected in which schools can participate. Each Thematic Area has a particular date for participation.

Theme 1 is compulsory and from the remaining 4 themes the schools can participate in any theme or a few of them or in all the Themes.

Why should the schools participate? :

They need to understand and consequently propagate the new emerging waves in education encompassing the nation leading to The Education Beyond Books

Instilling the desired confidence among the students as well as the parents about the usefulness of the new thrusts in education & acquainting them of the varied options available for a real multi - dimensional growth in shaping and securing the future of the students

What are the First things to be done by the participating school?

The schools can get registered for the WOC by getting online sanitation rating done for their school at the www.schoolsanitation.com and get a UIN( unique ID number) ID. This UIN - ID is to be quoted for the entries.

This UIN to be quoted in all the references.

Each participating school will constitute two types of committees:

What are the First things to be done by the participating school?

A 15 members WOC Committee in each school comprising of Students, Teachers & Staff is to be formed by each school for the supervision of the entire programme.

WOC School Management Committee Coding Each school will be assigned a UIN ( Unique Identity Number) once they do online rating of themselves for sanitation status which they would be quoting while submitting their reports and for any correspondence and queries. A series of possible activities has been given in the slides which school may follow. A separate list would also be circulate for the benefit of the schools so that they can plan well in advance.

National Talent Hunt in the Schools

The top 100 students in each of the following fields would be selected. Schools are requested to send us video bytes online at the email ( not more than two minutes)/photos of outstanding talent:-

Sports

  1. Talented Players - Team sports (limited to 3 team sports per school: entries & names to be decided by schools : max 6 names)
  2. Athlete tics & individual sports (max. 6 names per school)
  3. Martial Arts (max. 2 names )
  4. Sports journalists & commentators (max. 1 entry each per school)

Theme 2 : CCE-Scholastic & Co-Scholastic Areas(IV)

Performing Arts: ( Western and Indian)(max. 2 entries per school in each of the following categories )

The Process:

Each school can send one entry for each sub-category.

Selection

  1. Schools can decide their criteria for each category and sent the entry (*submission of entries will be in the form of CDs( videos not more than two minutes) alternatively entries could be uploaded in the website www.schoolsanitation.com ) The schools can get registered for the WOC by getting online sanitation rating done for their school and get a UIN ID. This UIN - ID is to be quoted for the entries.
  2. First level screening is required especially for authenticity. (Visual/Applied art - actual piece will be called at an appropriate level)
  3. Panels of judges at two levels will be formed for each category.
  4. 125 Finalists will be called for actual performance at the final forum (selected categories will be called*) You tube uploads/ CBSE site / webcasting for the finalists )
  5. Top 100 performers would be selected by a Jury of eminent experts. Winners will be awarded at a functionat a designated venue.
  6. Incentives/Awards and Rewards for the winners.

Theme 2 : CCE-Scholastic & Co-Scholastic Areas (IX)

Individual Students:

A talented student who is not selected by the school can send an individual entry. BUT the entry must be certified through a recognized talent training institute/Academy/etc. OR be certified by the local councilor/MLA/M.P. /through the concerned school teacher

Plantation of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants by school students- This can be done in August-September 2012 during rains. If the schools can do this year, fine or else at least plan for the next year rainy season.

Release of Regio-Specific Booklets on 50 most interesting plants : The First Series on Natural Health Systems & India's Natural Heritage

During the Launch :

  1. Have you noticed any sparrow or bird
  2. Try to take their photos and identify them
  3. Declare one bird as your school bird/ one animal as your school bird/animal and write about it.

Theme 3: ENVIRONMENT, CULTURE & HERITAGE (V)

Some Suggestions :
The schools can form a Nature / Wildlife Society

  1. Tell us if you want to visit a jungle. We can get it arranged
  2. Have you seen mongoose, etc or any other animal in/around your school apart from dogs? Note their names if not, try to take photo and send them to us.

Organize a wildlife/ trees photography competition in the school

  1. Three entries from each school will be uploaded on the website

Facilitating & Promoting The Access To Primary And Secondary Education

Up to the Class VIII, the Right to Education supports the child and beyond that admission problems, drop outs due to various reasons emerge. Therefore the support to the initiatives for improving and creating opportunities for the children in the age group 6-14 years to complete primary education, and for children in the age group 14 years and above to complete secondary education up to grade 12 is very much essential

Providing real opportunities to excel to the Students , Teachers & the Schools in the different fields (over the years, CBSE has grown into an institution of excellence and under it a very talented pool of school students exists which need to be harnessed young by giving them due    recognition. So WOC opens a new window for such differently talented students.)

Promoting the entrepreneurial attitude as well as development & sharpening of skills in the individual areas of interest for the students thereby enhancing the possibilities of creating viable career options
