Single Common Entrance Test for Medical Admission in India

Medical CET

Though it is fair to conduct a single common entrance test for medical admission as ordered by the apex court today, the order has come at an inappropriate time. Call it a belated order, since almost all important national level medical entrance test notifications have come and some of them have stopped receiving of applications. Even Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has notified for their entrance test and has started receiving online applications.

The last date of AIPMT as well as AFMC are over. AIIMS, Wardha, CMC, St. Johns.... all have notified for their separate entrance tests. Since each test has application fee almost all the aspirant students have applied by paying these fees separately. If all these tests stand cancelled on account of the Single Entrance Exam ordered by the Supreme Court, the fees will have to be reimbursed. It will make a heavy financial loss to the institutions since they had incurred a heavy expense for printing the prospectus and application forms as also for arranging the online facility for applying.

Karnataka too notified its Common Entrance Test ( CET ) recently, though the private consortium there COMEDK hasn't notified its admission yet. In Andhra Pradesh, the notification for its Common Admission Test , EAMCET, came in February and the application process is going on.

It is certain that the private medical managements will file appeal against this order of the Supreme Court and if such a situation arises the Union Govt also won't stand in favour of Single Medical Admission Test this year.
