CBSE Animation Course

The government is likely to introduce courses in animation in schools governed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The course will be started when the Ministry receives a detailed model for this stream from the film industry, according to Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal.

Inaugurating the sixth education seminar-cum-fair organised by Assocham here on Friday, Mr. Sibal said this was being done on the demand of the film industry. A Bollywood delegation called on the Minister to press for introduction of courses in animation at all school levels in view of its demand in the industry.

“I have asked them to prepare a detailed role model for animation courses that Bollywood wants to be taught in schools. As soon as it is given to the government, the course would be started,” said Mr. Sibal. He emphasised the need for introduction of such skill-oriented courses in all CBSE institutions.

“If India needs to survive possible foreseen human resources crisis, it has to gear up and prepare itself for which beginning has to be made in schools by imparting skills not only in animation but other such related courses,” Mr. Sibal said.

Speaking on the macro level of education, Mr. Sibal allayed fears that Indian universities and higher education institutions would face any discrimination if foreign universities were allowed to enter the country as foreign education institutions and domestic academic institutions would be regulated by accredited agencies appointed by the government.

The government would ensure that colleges run by private institutions adhere to the norms as disclosed in the prospectus and any violation detected by the regulator would make the institutions liable for prosecution, he said.

The Ministry would not interfere in any matter relating to private sector education, but if norms were violated the law would take its course and the guilty institutions would be severely dealt with, he said.
