Its capital is Itanagar. It shares its borders with Assam and Nagaland and international borders with Bhutan and Myanmar. It was earlier known as NEFA (North Eastern Frontier Agency) and was part of Assam. It became an independent state with a new name in 1982. The local language spoken here is Tibetan, but Assamese and Hindi are also widely used. It is the least populated state in the country. This state is connected to the rest of the country by rail or road. The airports in the state are non-operational. The education system here is underdeveloped but the government is working towards bettering the state’s literacy rate.
