Teacher's Day commemorates the birthday of the revered academic philosopher and scholar Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. When he became President, some of his students and friends requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, September 5. He replied, "Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if 5 September is observed as Teacher's Day" Indian tradition equates the teacher to god, as the Sanskrit hymn goes "acharya devo bhava".

The early growing years in a child's life are the most crucial and lay the foundation for developing their nature, personality and the individual self. It has been rightly said that 'children are the future of any country' and teachers play an important role in shaping their bright future. No doubt we can say that they are the building blocks, nay, the DNAs of our lives !
Teaching is indeed a job of great responsibility and our culture and tradition always extol the virtues of a learned guru. A building is as strong or weak as its foundation and the onus of laying this foundation and shaping the future citizens lies in the hands of the teachers. The mindset or the mentality of the whole society depends largely on the kind of educators it has.
But in today's techno-logical world of internet is the spirit of the guru-shishya tradition, so prevalent in our culture, dying out? Do teachers really influence a child's future? What do teachers feel about their changing role of in the lives of their students? Do they command the same respect?
A modern teacher is not the one who makes students learn by rote, but one who helps them discover the joys of learning. A good teacher explains, whereas a great teacher inspires.

"Today we are living in times when the concept of education has greatly changed from its context. There is no longer the teacher and the taught. Everything is relation, understanding, dialogue and discovery which are necessary for learning.
We are all Learners In this great journey of Life, Learning has become a partnership between the parents, community, school and the educator. I personally feel there are three things in education that endure : faith, hope and love and the greatest of them is love.Context will happen anyway".
